CAMTEQ

Background

Camteq are the leading provider of directional survey equipment for the mining industry. They supply a range of high precision multi-shot instrumentation used for mineral exploration. They wanted to create a product that broke industry norms and enhanced used experiences through the use of innovative technology.

Complete Solution

DESIGN. DEVELOPMENT. ENGINEERING.

Challenge

The challenge for us was that the camera probes needed to be used in hostile environments involving high temperatures, corrosive substances and high pressures. The device needed to have a battery life of over one year and high accuracy measurement abilities. Creating a device that was up to the task required novel thinking in the use of Inertial Measurement Units, with particular attention paid to their suitability to work in such hostile circumstances.

Solution

We provided Camteq with a complete product development service for the design of the Proshot series of tools including feasibility studies and reports, architecture development, hardware and software design and system testing.

Key Areas

  • High precision survey results within challenging environmental conditions
  • Downloadable data to a USB storage device
  • Wireless communication to seamlessly transfer data
  • Operating for over 1 year on a single battery
  • Capacity to store over 1,000 survey records

PROJECT SUCCESS

Outcome

The Camteq precision mining instrumentation was manufactured and adopted by hundreds of users within the mining industry in over fifteen countries. The tool was utilised by companies including DrillCorp, Rio Tinto and the global market leader Boart Longyear.
