Dept of Primary Industries wireless sensors

Customer
Under the Victorian State Government’s Market Validation Program (MVP) innovative businesses were invited to apply smart technologies to real market problems.

The process was 4 fold: MVP asked Victorian public sector entities to identify problems they wanted to solve, MVP chose several and invited Feasibility Studies for each. The successful proposers could then apply for grants of up to $1.5m to take each project through R&D and prototype to finished product.

Solution
Procept’s feasibility study for the wireless biophony sensors was chosen and then its fully-costed proposal for the whole project including:

  • design and production of detectors, transmitters, operating system, software and wireless network
  • engagement with subject matter experts in the USA, Europe and Korea,
  • overall management and co-ordination of the whole project.

Results
In 12 months, the project has progressed to prototype stage; a small, high fidelity embedded system that transmits gigabytes of audio data over a wireless mesh network, using lossless data compression.

The whole system is managed by a central server accessible via web interface. The prototype has been tested and the whole project will be completed in mid 2012.
