Austin Health body-worn medical sensors

Customer
Working with Austin Health and Southern Health Procept developed a feasibility report into the development of a low cost, accurate, wireless motion analysis system capable of providing long term monitoring of human movement for the management of patients with complex movement disorders from neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease and traumatic brain injury.

Solution
Procept undertook a feasibility study into the development of a body worn movement system which enabled the monitoring of patients both in the clinical environment and in the home.  The feasibility study:

  • Provided clear product requirements
  • Identified and assessed the feasibility of a number of technical solutions
  • Identified global research organisations with needed capabilities
  • Identified technologies and signal processing algorithms
  • Proposed an architecture of the preferred solution
  • Identified project risks and mitigation plans
  • Provided a fully-costed R&D budget
  • Provided a detailed project plan and schedule

Results
In 12 weeks, the feasibility report was completed and submitted to Austin Health.  The feasibility report showed that a high performance movement analysis system was viable and could be developed ready for clinical trials within 18 months.
